Eminem’s latest album, “Music to Be Murdered By” which dropped yesterday is filled with dark lyrics. While “Unaccommodating” quickly rose to controversy over insensitive lyrics about the Manchester terrorist attack at Ariana Grande’s concert, fans loved the plot twist in Eminem’s “Darkness.”
In that song, Eminem raps –
“If I bet you I’ll be in tomorrow’s paper, who would the odds favor?”
“Maybe I’ll take it and snooze, then tear up the stage in a few.”
“Round after round after round I’m getting loaded. That’s a lot of shots, huh?”
At this point, everyone thinks that the lyrics are talking about Eminem’s life as a rapper: getting drunk, performing, courting the media. But when I heard the song for the first time, I immediately knew.
In the song, the narrator isn’t about to tear up the stage with singing. He’s about to tear it up with gunfire.
To be honest, the dark video of the song already hinted that the lyrics were going to have some ominous backstory. By the time Eminem mentions Las Vegas and being in “tomorrow’s paper” in the first verse, I immediately started thinking about the Las Vegas…
