This article is not about Israel and Palestine or the objectively horrible things that have been happening in the region this week. (We can all agree it’s bad, right?) This article is about articles about it. And the astonishing lack of them.
Is the Israeli military justified? Is evicting people from their homes justified? Is it the fault of settlers? How much should we blame the British? How about the Holocaust? What about Hamas firing over a thousand rockets?
I know the answers to these questions. Or at least, I think I do. I’d love to write an article about it and debate it.
But for someone who has written about not using the word “Asian,” being in love with someone else while you’re married, and what God owes us, I am actually not brave enough to pick this fight.
Years and years ago, when I was a teenager, I did write about Israel and Palestine. The vitriol I faced online was insane, from people wishing me dead to rape threats. Today, in 2021, if I’m going to do something that risky to my mental health, it better be helping the world. And my two-cents doesn’t matter.
