The general point that I recommend thinking about is recognizing that if you are underprivileged and white, you are not underprivileged BECAUSE of the color of your skin. You'll see that a lot of the commenters don't even think it's possible to be racist against white people, which I strongly don't agree with, but still.

It's also not centuries ago. White people are still perpetuating systemic racism today. I'd go as far as saying most white people are, and that's not a U.S.-specific problem at all.
