So, I consider myself lucky to have people I could ask for a ride to the airport. But I go wayyyyy out of my way to keep it like that. I do the midnight rides and the last minute phone calls. I do hospital visits and unconditional love.

Sometimes--often, even--I don't get it back. Reading this article, though, made me realize I shouldn't take what I do have for granted. If I were stranded with nothing with my phone, I have friends who would buy me a ride to an airport and a plane flight, give me a place to stay, and take care of me. I'd do the same for them.

Last note: it's really rude to say the driver "could have been a madman, on drugs, or a crimnial," etc. That attitude is often racist and/or classist and that line really stuck out to me. You're far more likely to be raped or murdered by a friend that a (probably very nice) Uber or cab driver.
