I feel you. It’s similar in Hindu culture, although less extreme at least in the diaspora.

A lot of my friends are Iranian Muslim and I know very few Iranian women who aren’t extremely progressive, but for all I know my friend group is self-selected or biased. My Pakistani female friends are also progressive but frequently do say Pakistan is very, very repressive to them. (And of course most of my Iranian friends rarely go back to Iran, so…)

I wonder how to fix this. The patriarchy is hard to dismantle everywhere.
