I am so sorry to hear that. I often wonder if this has all been more difficult for my family than for me. The last time I was in a similar position to you — worried about a family member — I feel like it was harder for me than for the person who went through it. It can be terrifying.
To me, it’s not really about meaning something to the world. I do not care if my name is forgotten — I am certain it will be. If not a year after I day, then a thousand years for sure. But I refuse to leave the planet worse off than I came into it and it breaks my heart that sometimes it looks like I will. I suppose it’s the “light if you’re brave enough to be it” from Amanda Gorman’s poem at inauguration :). There is no darkness humans cannot defeat in at least some way.
