How To Discover Your Calling

Some people are born knowing they’re going to become a world-class chef or the fastest runner on the planet. Some people have it come to them on a soft ocean breeze. And the rest of us are never quite sure.

I was never sure because I wanted to do too many things. I wanted to be an astrophysicist, a singer, a politician, and a novelist.

For years, this meant I was never satisified. I was never doing everything I wanted to because I couldn’t. I always had that nagging feeling that if I only had more time, I’d do what I really wanted to do.

And then, one day, I stopped wondering and took action.

First, use your vacations to do what you want.

It’s crazy that the idea of doing what you want is so revolutionary. And yet it is.

For those of us who don’t have time when we’re at work, sometimes the best suggestion is taking a few months off. If you just have two weeks of leave, try to use a week this year to actually have nothing to do (no meetings, no family dinners, no chores) and discover yourself. If that doesn’t work, try having clear weekends for a month.
