A thought-provoking piece. Although I take contention with some parts of it, I think we need to focus more on the really big problem that is wasting four years of your life and $100K to get a likely useless education. College is largely a scam perpetuated by rich, white people trying to keep their world rich and white while not realizing that that is a) impossible and b) ruining the rest of our worlds while they're at it.
I went to college, went to law school, and recognize it as a great privilege. I have friends at law firms who would never be seen speaking to some of my other friends who work as nannies and construction workers and cashiers. That condescension is beyond ridiculous. The latter group is far happier, more well-balanced, and likelier to own their own homes/be happily married. I am very aware that I have much to learn from them, not the other way around. College, if anything, allowed us to postpone growing up.
